Search Engine Marketing - The act of marketing a website via search engines, whether this be improving rank in organic listings, purchasing paid listings or a combination of these and other search engine-related activities.

Search Engine Marketing - The term used to describe the range of marketing techniques required to make a website visible on search engines and directories so that it will attract visits from its target audience. This includes the optimization of a site, the submission to directories, the use of 'pay-per-click' search tools and keyword related advertising.

Search Engine Marketing - This is a newer term and separates what was once part of the function of a Search Engine optimizer, Search Engine Marketing specifically is the function of locating, researching, submitting, and positioning a web site within the proper search engines for maximum exposure and effectiveness. SEM may also include the function of choosing the target keywords and keyword phrases for the web site's meta tags

Search Engine Marketing - The process and strategy of using search engines results as an advertising vehicle. This may include improving rank in organic listings, purchasing paid listings, or a combination of methods all designed to increase visibility, clicks and, of course, leads and orders. Related terms: Conversion rate, Cost per click (CPC), Search engine optimization (SEO)

Search Engine Marketing - The practice of marketing and advertising through the search engines.

Search Engine Marketing - Similar to SEO (below), and sometimes used to emphasize that generating quality targeted traffic is of greater importance than simply obtaining high rankings. Can also include PPCSEs and other search engine advertising.

Search Engine Marketing - Includes both advertising and optimization efforts to achieve high visibility of a webs site for relevant keywords. Also referred to as search engine positioning or search engine promotion.

Search Engine Marketing - The changes that are made to the content and code of a web site in order to increase its rankings in the results pages of search engines and directories. These changes may involve rewriting body copy, altering Title or Meta tags, removal of Frames or Flash content, and the seeking of incoming links. Search Engine Marketing also entails non-optimization methods of drawing traffic through search engines, including management of paid advertising listings on search engines.

Search Engine Marketing - The overall marketing effort to achieve high visibility of a website. SEO and PPC are search engine marketing tactics.

Search Engine Marketing - A service offered by specialized internet marketing companies which includes increasing visitor traffic, via search engine optimization, PPC marketing, and monitoring of ROI. Also known as Search Marketing.
